Kozhikode: Expressing strong resentment against police raids on its offices and residences of activists, the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), the political arm of radical Muslim outfit Popular Front of India (PFI) in Kerala today said this was against freedom of expression.
Speaking to newspersons here, SDPI Secretaries Thulasidharan Pallikkal and Iqramul Haq said SDPI was a legally registered political outfit fulfilling the norms set by the Election Commission of India.
The party had won elections in different states during the last one year. This has invited the wrath of the ''traditional political leadership,'' prompting them to launch raids, they alleged.
The residences off non-Muslim activists of the party were also raided during odd hours merely because they were members of the SDPI, they said.
Claiming that there was a conspiracy behind the raids, they charged the traditional political forces were against the formation of a separate political outfit aimed at safeguarding the interests of down trodden sections of the society.
Police conducted raids in the offices of SDPI and residence of their activists for their suspected involvement in the gruesome attack on a college professor in the state a few days ago.
