Kolkata: Minority Affairs minister Salman Khurshid today slammed BJP president Nitin Gadkari for his comments on death row convict Afzal Guru.

"Gadkari either does not understand or does not try to understand," Khurshid told reporters when asked to comment on the BJP chief's taunt whether Guru was the son-in-law of Congress.

Guru was sentenced to death in the Parliament attack case in 2001.

"There is a law prevailing in the country and the government has no role to play here," the minister said.

Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee had yesterday criticised the BJP chief, saying politicians should not cross the line of decency.
