HC directs CBI to initiate fresh probe into Rizwanur Rehman case

Over two years after computer graphics teacher Rizwanur Rahman was found dead under mysterious circumstances near a railway track here, the Calcutta High Court today directed the CBI to    »

New Delhi: The Supreme Court Friday stayed the Calcutta High Court order for reinvestigation into Rizwanur Rehman's mysterious death and the quashing of the charge sheet in the case.

The apex court also stayed all the consequent orders flowing from the high court ruling, including the discharging of Rizwanur Rehman's father-in-law and industrialist Ashok Todi and others by the trial court.

Rizwanur Rehman married Ashok Todi's daughter Priyanka and within months his body was found lying near a rail track.

The apex court bench of Justice P. Sathasivam and Justice B.S. Chauhan asked the trial court to restore the bail bonds of Ashok Todi and others to its satisfaction. However, the apex court said that till it decided on the petitions before it, the trial court would not proceed with the trial of Ashok Todi and other accused.

Both the CBI and Ashok Todi have moved the apex court challenging the high court direction to the CBI to register fresh FIR and re-investigate the matter.
