Luther King III urges youth to become public spirited business
leaders

Mumbai:
The world renowned civil rights activist, Martin Luther King III
urged the Indian youth to become public spirited business leaders
and be a servant humanity.
He said, “Young people are always in
the vanguard of all successful social movements. I urge the
students of today to pick up the torch of non-violence, because
peace is not the goal, it is the way.”
Martin Luther King III, who has been awarded the Ramakrishna Bajaj
Memorial Award for outstanding contribution to the promotion of
Human Rights was speaking at the UGC sponsored National Seminar
“60 years of the Constitution of India: Retrospect and Prospect”
organized by Jai Hind College, Mumbai.
Martin Luther King III mentioned that it does not take masses but
only a few determined individuals to create a non violent
community.
He lauded Jai Hind College’s effort in organizing the Seminar to
commemorate 60 years of the Indian constitution and said that he
had tremendous respect for the Indian Constitution which laid the
foundation of the world’s largest democracy and caters to more
than triple the number of people and diversity than that of the US
Constitution.
King ended his talk by exhorting the youth to rise above
narrow individualistic concerns and create a humane and
compassionate world. “We need to peacefully resolve territorial
disputes and the global environmental crisis”, he said.
Tushar Gandhi, well known social worker and great grandson of
Mahatma Gandhi also spoke at length on issues of inequality,
illiteracy, hunger and poverty.
