Delhi:
A total of 2,080 Indian children were adopted internationally
between 2008-2010, parliament was told Thursday.
Women and Child Development Minister Krishna Tirath also told the
Rajya Sabha that a total of 6,286 adoptions - 5,693 domestic and
593 international - were reported in 2010.
She said that the government does not maintain data of adoptions
in China and Russia.
Explaining about the measures taken to check illegal adoptions,
Krishna Tirath said: "Guidelines for adoption have been revised
and notified in June this year."
"The adoption guidelines stipulate mandatory post-adoption
follow-up for children placed both in domestic as well as
inter-country adoption. This is done for a period of two years
after adoption and is conducted by authorised adoption agencies,"
she added.
