Maharashtra information commissioner suspended

Thursday January 20, 2011 08:54:40 PM, IANS

Mumbai: Maharashtra Governor K. Sankaranarayanan Thursday suspended State Information Commissioner Ramanand Tiwari, who is allegedly involved in the Adarsh Society scam.

"The suspension order has been issued and comes into immediate effect," an official told IANS.

Tiwari's suspension came two days after the governor referred the matter to the Supreme Court under Sec 17(1) of the Right To Information Act.

The action against Tiwari, a former bureaucrat, comes amid revelations that his son, Omkar, was also a member in the controversial building.
