Mumbai: Syedna
Mohammed Burhanuddin, 100, the spiritual head of the Dawoodi Bohra
community, has suffered a stroke and has been admitted to a London
hospital, a spokesperson said here Sunday.
"The Syedna has named his son Shahzada Mufaddal as his successor,"
the spokesperson of the community said.
The spokesperson, however, said there was no more information available on the leader's current health condition.
On March 25, the small but prosperous community marked the 100th
birthday of its spiritual leader.
At 100, Syedna, the 52nd Dai al-Mutlaq (direct in the line of
descendents of the Prophet Mohammed) is a frail man.
Burhanuddin succeeded his father, the late Syedna Taher Saifuddin,
in 1965 as the head of his community.
He has been awarded The Order Of The Star of Jordan and Vishah Al-Neel
of Egypt, besides honorary citizenship of the US and Canada.
