Indian
pays blood money, saves four countrymen in Saudi Arabia

Dubai: An Indian
entrepreneur in Qatar offered "blood money" to save the lives of
four of his countrymen sentenced to death in Saudi Arabia, a media
report said Sunday.
Cheril Krishna Menon, a businessman based in the Qatar capital,
offered 6.8 million Qatari rials ($1.8 million) as compensation to
save the lives of the Indian nationals sentenced to death by a Saudi
Arabian court on charges of killing a compatriot in Riyadh province
in 2008.
Menon made the payment through a friend in Saudi Arabia, Gulf News
reported citing Qatari daily Gulf Times.
The four Indians sentenced to death are all from Kerala. They were
identified as Mohammad Fazaludeen, Mustafa Kunnath, Mohammad Mustafa
and Zakir Hussain.
They were accused of killing 24-year-old Mohammad Ashraf, who hailed
from Karnataka.
Menon agreed to pay the blood money after a plea from the opposition
leader in the Kerala legislative assembly.
"I considered this a true humanitarian act as it involved saving
four lives. I would also do whatever possible in future to help
further the family of the deceased, if they approach me for any
assistance," Menon was quoted as saying.
Menon is the chairman and managing director of the Behzad Group of
Companies in the Middle East, Europe and US, with its headquarters
based in Qatar.
