Chennai: A 36-year-old M.Tech student at the
Indian Institute of Technology-Madras (IIT-M) was found dead in
his hostel room Wednesday. Police suspect the death was sucicide.
B. Gowrisankar, 36, a senior engineer with Hindustan Aeronautics
Ltd (HAL), Bangalore, was sponsored by his company to pursue
post-graduate studies at the IIT-M.
His family - wife and two sons- live in Bangalore and his parents
live in Thiruvottiyur area here.
According to police, no suicide note was found and Gowrisankar's
laptop has been sent to cyber crime wing for detection of clues.
The death came to light after Gowrisankar's wife asked one of his
local friends to check up on him as he was not reachable on his
mobile phone.
Finding Gowrisankar in his bed with froth in his mouth, his friend
informed the hostel and security authorities who in turn called
the police.
According to police, the autopsy will be conducted Thursday and
only after that will the cause of death be known.
According to police, further details can be known only after the
arrival of Gowrisankar's family.
If it is suicide, Gowrisankar will be the third student at IIT-M
to take his own life in the last seven months.
In May, L. Nitin Kumar Reddy, an M.Tech student, was found hanging
in his hostel room, and in February, another M.Tech student
committed suicide.
