Islamabad: Nearly 60
percent of water samples collected from Islamabad have tested
unsafe for drinking, a media report said Thursday.
The Pakistan Council of Research in Water Resources (PCRWR) has
revealed that 59 percent of water samples collected from the
capital tested unsafe.
In Rawalpindi, of the 1,125 water samples tested, 73 percent were
found to be contaminated with coliforms, nitrate and higher levels
of total dissolved solids (TDS), far beyond the prescribed
standards of the Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority
(PSQCA), Daily Times reported quoting the official APP news
agency.
An estimated 44 percent of the Pakistani population does not have
access to safe drinking water, while 90 percent of the population
in rural areas lacks safe drinking water, according to PCRWR.
