Kollam (Kerala): The Indian electronic industry will
require 2.8 million professionals at various levels by 2020,
according to a top government official.
J. Satyanarayana, secretary, department of electronics and
information technology, Saturday said the proposed national
electronic policy would provide the roadmap for meeting this
requirement.
He was inaugurating SecurIT 2012 at the Amritapuri Campus, started
by Mata Amritanandamayi here.
SecurIT, the first international conference on Security of
Internet of Things, aims at bringing together researchers,
practitioners and "ethical hackers" around the globe for
disseminating latest advances in security, cloud computing, mobile
networks and cyber-physical control systems.
"The Internet has virtually become borderless and has become a
powerful instrument of change. The openness also involved misuse
of information, including the security of the country and its
economy. No less important was the use of the medium for settling
political scores. All this only underscores the need for a
regulatory mechanism both at the national and international
fronts," said Satyanarayana.
Foreign investment and collaboration had also been agreed upon the
details of which were being worked out.
He said steps are being taken to bring about active collaboration
between the government, industry and academia to make use of the
technological advancement.
Satyanarayana added that an investment of Rs.10,000 crore had been
decided "in principle" to promote the electronics industry.
