Trinamool supporters storm factory, beat up owner, staff

Sunday November 04, 2012 11:47:12 AM, IANS

Kolkata: Three Trinamool Congress supporters, arrested for allegedly storming the premises of a private waste management company and beating up its employees in West Bengal's Hooghly district, were released on bail Saturday.

The incident in Sreerampur took place Friday when the Trinamool activists led a large mob into the factory accusing the management of polluting the locality and attacked the employees as also the owner Sumit Kumar Agarwal with rods and sticks.

An injured Agarwal, who filed a police complaint, said: "This is what happens when you work in Bengal. There is no work culture here".

Asim Kumar Sil, one of the arrested activists and a local panchayat pradhan, claimed they had protested in the people's interest as the company had not paid any heed to their repeated requests to check pollution.

The incident comes close on the heels of the ongoing stalemate at the Haldia Dock Complex where a port equipment operator decided to quit the state alleging poor law and order and lack of safety of its employees.
