Jaipur: The Rajasthan government will train 35,000 workers in the textile
industry over the next five years.
The training will be provided by the Apparel Training and Design
Centre (ATDC) under a programme supported by the union textiles
ministry and the Rajasthan State Industrial Development and
              Investment corporation (RIICO).

"Under the 12th Five Year Plan, from 2012-2017, ATDC-SMART plans
to train 35,000 candidates with one SMART TOT Academy and a total
of 25 ATDC-SMART centres," said Hari Kapoor, ATDC vice chairman,
at the Vastra 2012 textile seminar held here.

"Rajasthan has a huge workforce, which gives it an edge over other
states as an investment destination," Kapoor added.

The union government has also set up SMART (skills for
manufacturing apparels through research and training) centres all
over the country. Already ATDC has trained 6,800 candidates in
Rajasthan in partnership with RIICO at 14 ATDC-SMART centres and
              skill camps.

The textiles and apparel sector is estimated to employ over seven
million workers directly and 25 million indirectly, out of which
50 percent is estimated to be in the export sector.

The sector is expected to generate 17 million jobs in textiles and
clothing sector in the next 10 years and will employ 9.34 million
engineers, diploma holders, vocationally trained and other
              graduates.
