New Delhi: Fasih Mehmood, suspected to have been involved in a conspiracy to set off bomb blasts in Bangalore and Delhi, and an alleged member of the Indian Mujahideen (IM) terrorist organisation, has been arrested, Delhi police said Monday.

According to police, Mehmood was deported from Saudi Arabia. As soon as he reached Delhi airport he was taken into custody.

Fasih Mehmood, 35, is alleged to have been involved in the Chinnaswamy Stadium blast in Bangalore and a bomb blast in Delhi, both in 2010. He is wanted by both Delhi and Karnataka police.

"A year ago, he was arrested by Saudi Arabia police, and has since been in custody in that country. Investigative agencies in Delhi were in constant touch with Saudi Arabian authorities for his deportation to India," a senior police official said.

Mehmood was employed as an engineer in Saudi Arabia and was allegedly picked up by Saudi authorities from Al Jubal May 13 for suspected terror links.

Mehmood hails from Barh Saaila village in Darbhanga district of Bihar, about 200 km from Patna. His father, Firoz Ahmad, is incharge of the Benipatti primary health centre in Madhubani district. His mother is a school teacher in Darbhanga.
