Putrajaya: Malaysia will hold its 13th general election May 5, the
election commission announced Wednesday.
The nomination date was set for April 20, which would kick off the
15-day official campaign period, reported Xinhua.
However, the election buzz can be felt, with banners and flags of
both the ruling coalition and opposition being set up across the
country.
Both sides have unveiled their campaign manifestos, focusing on
improving people's livelihood in a bid to win more votes.
The parliament was dissolved April 3, followed by the dissolution
the state assemblies of 12 of Malaysia's 13 states.
The only exception is the State of Sarawak, which re-elected its
state legislature in 2011.
A total of 222 parliamentary seats and 505 state seats will be
contested in the election, which is widely seen as the least
predictable one since the country's independence in 1957.
The ruling coalition, led by Prime Minister Najib Razak, is eyeing
to re-take the two-thirds majority in the parliament that it lost
in the last election in 2008.
