Maharashtra ATS officer shoots himself

Saturday March 23, 2013 08:16:25 PM, IANS

Thane (Maharashtra): A senior Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) officer Saturday shot himself with his own service weapon, police said.

According to an ATS officer, Deputy Commissioner of Police Sanjay Banerjee fired a couple of rounds from his revolver into himself. However, the official refused to divulge more information as to where he shot himself or if he left a suicide note.

Banerjee was attached with the technical cell of the ATS since a year.

According to the official, the reason for the suicide was not yet known. The body has been sent for a post-mortem, following which a clear picture might emerge, the official said.
