Wednesday December 24, 2014 3:10 PM , Rym Ghazal

Jesus, known as Isa in the Quran, is mentioned more times than Prophet Mohammed (about 29 times to four times), including a whole Sura (chapter) on his mother, Sura 19 "Maryam" (Mary), along with stories of his life, his teachings and his virgin birth, and the miracles he performed granted through God.

News of his coming and his birth
"Behold! the angels said, 'Oh Mary! Allah gives you glad tidings of a Word from Him. His name will be Christ Jesus, the son of Mary, held in honour in this world and the Hereafter, and in [the company of] those nearest to Allah. He shall speak to the people in cradle and in old age. And he shall be [in the company] of the righteous.

She said: "O my Lord! How shall I have a son when no man has touched me? He said: "Even so, Allah creates what He wills when He has decreed a plan. He only says to it, Be, and it is! And Allah will teach him the Book and Wisdom, the Law and the Gospel'" (Quran 3:45-48).

Details about the actual birth of Jesus
"And relate in the Book [the story of] Mary, when she withdrew from her family to a place in the East. She placed a screen to seclude herself from them. Then We sent to her Our angel, and he appeared before her as a man in all respects.

"She said: "I seek refuge from [Allah] the Most Gracious from you, if you do fear Allah." He said, 'Nay, I am only a messenger from your Lord to announce to you the gift of a holy son.'

"She said, 'How shall I have a son, seeing that no man has touched me, and I have not been unchaste?'

"He said: So [it will be]: your Lord says, 'That is easy for Me. And [We wish] to appoint him as a Sign unto men and a Mercy from Us.' It is a matter [so] decreed." (Quran 19:16-21)

"So she conceived him, and she withdrew with him to a remote place. And the pains of childbirth drove her to the trunk of a palm tree.

"She said, 'I wish I had died before this, and was in oblivion, forgotten." But he called her from below her,

"Do not grieve; your Lord has provided beneath you a stream. And shake toward you the trunk of the palm tree; it will drop upon you ripe, fresh dates. So eat and drink and be contented.

"And if you see from among humanity anyone, say, 'Indeed, I have vowed to the Most Merciful abstention, so I will not speak today to [any] human being.'

"Then she brought him to her people, carrying him. They said, "O Mary, you have certainly done a thing unprecedented. O sister of Aaron, your father was not a man of evil, nor was your mother unchaste."

"So she pointed to him. They said, "How can we speak to one who is a child in the cradle? He said, "Indeed, I am the servant of Allah. He has given me the Scripture and made me a prophet; And He has made me blessed wherever I am and has enjoined upon me prayer and charity as long as I live;

"And [made me] dutiful to my mother, and He has not made me a wretched tyrant; And peace is on me the day I was born and the day I will die and the day I am raised up to life [again]!" (Quran 19:22-33) []
