Upset, but sure truth will prevail: Manmohan Singh on court summons
Wednesday March 11, 2015 5:07 PM, IANS

Former prime minister Manmohan Singh said on Wednesday he was "upset" by a court here summoning him in a case relating to the allocation of coal blocks, but was "sure truth will prevail."

"Of course, I am upset but this is part of life. I have respect for the judicial process. I have stated my position before the CBI. I have issued statements also justifying what we did," he told reporters when asked about the summons issued to him by a special court here.

"I have always said I am open for legal scrutiny…I am sure the truth will prevail and I will get a chance to put forward my case with all the facts," Manmohan Singh said, adding he will discuss with his legal counsel on contesting the summons.

Special Judge Bharat Parashar, after taking cognizance of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) final report in the coal block allocation case, summoned the former prime minister, industrialist Kumar Mangalam Birla and former coal secretary P.C. Parakh.

The court also summoned Hindalco officials Shubendu Amitabh and D. Bhattacharya on April 8.

The court summoned them under various sections of the Indian Penal Code dealing with criminal conspiracy, criminal breach of trust and provisions under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
