New Delhi/Islamabad/Dhaka: Markazai Ruyat e Hilal Commitee Mumbai, Hyderabad and Patna in India, and Central Ruyat e Hilal Committee of Pakistan in separate statements issued on Tuesday August 22, 2017 corresponding to 29th of Dhulka'edah 1438 AH said that Eid al Adha in the two countries will be celebrated on Saturday September 02, 2017.
"The new moon of the month of Dhul Hijjah is not sighted in any part of India. It is hence declared that Wednesday will be 30th Dhulka'edah 1438 AH, and the first day of Dhul Hijjah will be on August 24, 2017", the moon sighting committees in India said in separate statements.
"Accordingly, the first day of Eid al Adha will be Saturday September 02, 2017", the statements added.
The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, Pakistan said on Tuesday that the Dhul Hijjah moon was not sighted in Pakistan today, and hence Eid al Adha will fall on September 2, according to Geo News.
Eid al Adha is celebrated all around the world on 10th of Dhul Hijjah - the month revered as one of the holiest month is the Islamic calendar.
Earlier, the committee met at the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) in the metropolis. The meeting was chaired by Committee Chairman Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman.
Zonal committees have also met in Lahore and Islamabad. In Lahore, the moon sighting meeting was chaired by Punjab Auqaf Director General Tahir Bukhari.
Reports coming from Dhaka also said that the National Moon Sighting Committee is holding a meeting and so far no moon report has been received from any part of Bangaldesh. But, the committee will wait for some time more before making a formal announcement regarding the exact date of Eid al Adha celebrations.

08:23 pm Markazi Rooyat e Hilal Committee, Kanpur in a statement released today Tuesday August 22, 2017 corresponding to 29th of Dhulka'edah 1438 AH said there were no report of moon sighting from any part of the state, hence Eid al Adha will be celebrated on Saturday September 02, 2017.
"The first day of Dhul Hijjah will be on Thursday August 24, 2017 and Eid al Adha will be celebrated on Saturday September 02, 2017", Mufti Manzoor Ahmed Mazahari said in a signed statement.

Rooyat-e-Hilal Committee Malegaon and Nashik also issued similar statements.

The Imarat e Shariah office also said that the moon committee is sitting in a meeting since Maghrib prayers and a formal announcement in this regrad will be made soon.

Moon sighting committees in India, Pakistan and Bangladesh will meet after Maghrin prayers today on Tuesday August 22, 2017 corresponding to 29th of Dhulka'edah 1438 AH in these South Asian countries to analyse and confirm sighting of the moon so that it could be decided when Eid al Adha ( also called as Eidul Azha or Bakra Eid) will be celebrated this year.
Hilal Committees or Moon Sighting Committees in New Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Lucknow, Dhaka, Lahore, Islamabad and other state capitals in the three countries had in separate statements called upon the Muslims to witness Crescent - the new moon of the Holy month of Dhul Hijjah (also pronounced Zul Hijja), today Tuesday August 22, 2017 corresponding to 29th of Dhulka'edah 1438 AH to decide when Eid al Adha will be celebrated this year.
It was also announced that the new moon if sighted today 29th of Dhulka'edah 1438 AH will decide when Eid al Adha -second holiest festival, which also coincides with annual Haj i.e. pilgrimage to Makkah, will be celebrated in the Arab world.
A decision by the moon sighting committees can be delayed because most part of India is cloudy and under this climate the moon sighting confirmation is difficult.
If the new moon is sighted in India, Pakistan and Bangaldesh today on Tuesday August 22, 2017, then Muslims in these countries will celebrate Eid al Adha (also called as Eid ul Azha or Bakra Eid) along with Saudi Arabia and other Arab states.
Saudi Arabia and other Arab states will also decide today if Eid al Adha 2017 in these countries will be celebrated on September 01, 2017 or a day earlier.
The Supreme Court of Saudi Arabia after a meeting to analyse the moon reports on Monday August 21, 2017 corresponding to 29th of Dhulka'edah 1438 AH in Arab States announced that the new moon is not sighted in any of the Arab state. Yet, the Royal Court said it will hold a meeting Tuesday evening to take a final call on when Eid al Adha will be celebrated in Arab world.
Youm-e-Arafah (Arafat Day), also called as Youm-ul-Hajj, is on the 9th day of Dhul Hijjah whereas Eid al Adha is observed a day later i.e. on 10th day of Dhul Hijjah.
Muslims in the United States, United Kingdom and other Euripean countries rely on the moon sighting report of Saudi Arabia. As per this tradition, the Fiqh Council of North America, United States has said it will follow the Eid date announced by the authorities in Makkah, and so will the European Council of Fatwa and Research.

Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim announced that Turkey will observe a nine-day public holiday for Eid, known in Turkey as Qurban Bayram, from Thursday, August 31 until Sunday, September 10, 2017.

Decision on Muslim festivals Eid al Fitr and Eid al Adha is based on lunar system. As per this system, the first day of a new month is decided if moon is sighted on 29th day of the preceding month.
