The Men Inspired by Debacles

Skilled Hands converting couplets into portraits

Udupi: Everyone in this world is endowed with a talent unique to him or her and it is with these talents many people have reached to the pinnacle of success in their life. Having a talent is one thing, discovering it is another. Many of us are not maximizing their talents or are not using it at all, and there could be many reasons associated with this. It could be that they didn’t know they had such a talent to begin with or there is no room for that talent in the chosen life you have now. But one reason that concludes why most people don’t tap into their potential is because of fear.

Many people are afraid to use their talents with a fear that they will be rejected. They might think they’ll lose what they have now if they use their talents. Some are just afraid of the possibilities that could be unlocked when one uses his or her talents. But here is a teen who used his talents and created history in Table Tennis and that too without compromising on his studies. His above 90% performance in all the subjects proves his commitment towards his talent and his academic studies.

Misbah was born on 26th of May, 1992 to Mr. Shafi Ahmed and Mrs. Afroze Shafi Ahmed at Manipal, and has two elder sisters; Sabah, who has completed her graduation in M.I.J.M at MAHE, Manipal and Sana, who is doing her H.I.A at MAHE, Manipal. Misbah completed his early schooling at St. Mary's High School, Udupi and at present he is pursuing his Pre University Course in the Vidyodaya College, Udupi. He has taken up the P.C.M.C stream and his dream is to become a Software Engineer.

When Misbah was studying in kindergarten, he showed a keen interest in computers.  As he grew up, he became very proficient in academics and stood first in class.  His love for table tennis developed when he reached the 6th std.  He watched the senior students playing Table Tennis in school and was inspired by them. When he was in the 7th Std., he went to Bangalore for coaching in Table Tennis. Mr. Shamshed Banu was his coach then. After two and a half months of coaching, he returned to Mangalore and started to compete in various competitions. In 8th Std., he went to Dubai for coaching. Mr. Chang from China and Mr. Soumyadeep from India were his coaches and they trained him for 2 months. When he was in 9th Std., he went to Chennai for coaching and Mr. Murlidhar trained him for 15 days. In 10th Std., he joined the Udupi Shine Table Tennis Academy. Last year, he had been to Pune for coaching; Mr. Rohit Chowdary from Indore trained him for 20 days.

His parents supported him in every possible way. They spent a lot of money to train their son and make him strong in his chosen field. He says, "My mom encouraged me a lot to participate in every tournament while my father supported me and stood with me as my strong pillar. My mom said to balance sports as well as studies. She never discouraged me to give up sports and to concentrate only on my studies. Today, whatever I am, it is because of my parents' support and the encouragement from my entire family, friends, my mentors, and my well wishers."

Misbah has won more than hundred trophies, gold medals and recognition from various competitions as well as institutions. Misbah grabbed all the opportunities which came to him. Apart from Table Tennis he has won the "National Level IT Talent Quest" in 2007. He is a good chess player and he has won chess competitions held at the Vidyodhaya College.

Misbah participated in every competition be it Republic Day Tournament, District level, State Level and now National level. In December 2007, the 53rd National Level Table Tennis Tournament was held at Aizwal, Misoram and Misbah represented Karnataka and won the Gold Medal by defeating Delhi. He has been selected to represent Karnataka for the 3rd time to play National Level Table Tennis.

His hobbies are reading, playing computer games and participating in quiz.

His future plans are to be involved more and more in Table Tennis and to bring more laurels, name and fame to the nation by becoming the number one TT player in the world.

His Message to the readers is to "Set a goal in your life and act accordingly. When you are talented in any particular subject or game, it is important that you know what talents you have acquired upon birth. When you know your talents, you have a better envisioned goal for yourself. You are giving yourself an opportunity to be in a place where your talents are going to be maximized. When your talents are being used, you become a happier and more successful person. When you will be a successful person, you make your parents, your society and your nation proud.”
