Sare Jahan Se Accha

Hindustan Hamara

In 1905 more than 100 years from today, when Iqbal was a lecturer at the Government College, Lahore he was invited by his student Lala Hardayal to preside over a function. Instead of making a speech, Iqbal sang Sare Jahan Se Accha Hindustan Hamara in his style. Iqbal compiled this poem in praise of India and the poem preaches the communal harmony that had unfortunately started ceasing in India by that time. Each and every word in this poem depicts an Indian’s respect and love for the motherland and the values the Indian society inherited for long.

The couplets that were sung in a small hall of the Government College, Lahore, spread to every corner and streets of the country soon making it the greatest patriotic song of the country. Iqbal was sitting in a boat house in Kashmir when some children passed by him singing this song. Iqbal smiled as these small kids were unaware of his presence near them.

The poem was set to music in the 1950s by Pandit Ravi Shankar, and is regularly sung on occasions of national importance. When Indira Gandhi asked Rakesh Sharma, the first Indian astronaut who went to space, how India looked from space, he immediately replied, “Sare Jahan se Accha Hindustan Hamara.”

When heard of Iqbal’s death in 1938, Mahatma Gandhi wrote in his condolence message for the nation, “ What can I write about Dr. Iqbal except that I was sobbing due to emotions when I first read his famous poem Sare Jahan se Accha. When in Yerawada Jail, I must have sung this poem over hundred times. Each and every word of this great poem is very sweet to me and even while writing this message I can feel hearing the couplets of this poem into my ears.”

Sure, the ecstasy revisits a person every time after reading or listening to this great poem even after more than hundred years when this great poem was written by Dr. Iqbal.

An Open Letter to Prime Minister
A Prelude to Malegaon Bomb Blast
Lt Col admitted his role in Malegaon Blast
Inside Narrative of Naded Blast

With the investigations into Malegaon blast advancing rapidly, the hitherto hidden face of the terror is finally being exposed to the world and the assertion that the terrorism is a baby of only a particular community, in limelight after every act of terror, is now becoming a delusion. Strangely following the alleged involvement of the Hindu fringe groups in Malegaon blast speculations are rife in the media citing this as a first instance of a tit-for-tat or counter terrorism by Hindu fringe groups. However the recent breakthrough if combined with blasts in Prabhani (Friday, November 21, 2003), Jalna (Friday, August 27, 2004), Purna (Friday, August 27, 2004) and Malegaon (Friday, September 8, 2006) and according to some reports the blasts in Delhi Jama Masjid, Hyderabad and Ajmer all occurring in or around mosques and also the tragic blast in Samjhuta Express (February 2007) clearly pointed at the involvement of the Hindu extremist groups to counter the inhuman acts of terror by Jehadi forces that are reportedly supported by the outfits working from across the borders. Had there been any doubt over this fact, the painstaking investigations by Anil J. Tamaichekar, ACP - ATS Maharashtra into the April 2006 Nanded blast provided enough evidence to counter them.

Terrorists in Disguise

On April 06, 2006 at around 01:30 midnight a powerful explosion had occurred in Nanded at the residence of Laxman Rajkondawar killing Naresh Rajkondawar and Himanshu Panse, and injuring Yogesh Ravindra Deshpande Vidholkar, Maroti Kishore Wagh, Gururaj Jayaram Tuptewar and Rahul Pande. Special IG Surya Prakash Gupta in a press conference on April 07, 2006 stated that the site was actually used for bomb making, and the deceased and the injured were active members of Bajrangdal. The report filed by ACP Tamaichekar also confirmed this and added that the bomb was supposed to be planted near an Aurangabad mosque the following day. As the investigations ensued further, police recovered a map in which the Aurangabad mosque was marked, fake beards and outfits used by Muslims from Himanshu’s house.

Later on a series of Forensic tests conducted on the accused confirmed their intention to target the mosque in Aurangabad and also their involvement in the earlier blasts that had occurred in Prabhani, Jalna and Purna. The Narco Analysis report of Nanded blast accused Rahul Manohar Pande (No. FSL/4371/FPS/187/2006) and Sanjay alias Bhaurao Vithalrao Choudhary, accused in the Parbhani and Nanded blasts (No.FSL/4876/FPS/187/2006) copies of which are available with ummid.com gave clear lead about their training sessions by former military men held at Bhosla Military School. These reports also disclosed their associations with the Sangh Parivar.

Terrorizing to Avenge

After the blast on April 6, 2006 in Naded at the residence of Laxman Rajkondawar allegedly linked with Sangh Parivar, it was anticipated that the explosion was due to the firecrackers. However further investigations carried by ACP Anil Tamichekar and the consequent Forensic tests conducted on the accused in July 2006 revealed that the accused were actually involved in bomb making and were trained in handling Improvised Explosive Devices (IED).

According to the Narco Analysis report (No. FSL/4371/FPS/187/2006) conducted on Rahul Manohar Pande, one of the accused in the blast, Himanshu Panse who had died in the blast was the group leader and was a master in making the bombs. Rahul further revealed that all the blasts of recent past in the Marathwada region - Jalna, Purna and Parbhani were planned by Himanshu, and he had accompanied Himanshu for the Jalna blast. Moreover, Rahul revealed, they were supported by Nanded-based VHP leaders Govind Puranik and Abhay Madhukar, and Atul Vinodrao Kamtikar from Aurangabad. He even named a top leader attached with a prominent right wing organisation in his statement saying that he had once visited them and had delivered a speech.

The Narco Analysis report (No. FSL/4876/FPS/187/2006) conducted on Sanjay alias Bhaurao Vithalrao Choudhary, one of the accused in the Parbhani and Nanded blasts is more revealing. Sanjay revealed that he was involved with Himanshu Panse and three others Maroti Wagh (injured), Rahul Manohar Pande (injured) and Yogesh Ravindra Widulkar (injured) and all of them had received training in bomb making at Akasha Resort in Sinhagad, Pune in 2003.

Elaborating further about the bomb that was prepared in Nanded at the residence of Naresh Laxman Rajkondawar, Sanjay had revealed, the bomb was actually meant to trigger a blast at an Aurangabad mosque the following day and Himanshu who was operating on the basis of the orders received over the cell phone from his superiors on separate SIM card, thought that only way to take revenge of the terrorist attacks and safeguard Hindutva would be to target the Muslim population. Sanjay had also revealed that after his arrest he had received a call from a local Bajrangdal leader of Bajrangnagar, Nanded assuring him not to feel afraid and he would get him released from the jail very soon.

Muslim Organisations and Urdu Media combined with a vast majority of secular people across the country were crying since last two years for transparency into the blast investigations. However despite the gravity of the situation and serious conspiracy to destabilize the country as the government itself is realizing now, the government never gave any attention to their demands. More unfortunately despite major breakthrough in the case and requests sent by the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to Chief Secretary of Maharashtra State, it was reportedly dealt with leniently. Had this not been the case, we would have perhaps saved the country from at least some terror attacks.
