Quiz Time - A Brief Introduction

Hamid Iqbal Siddiquee, living at

present in Mumbai belongs to an

emminent literate family. His

grandfather Seemab Akbarabadi is

a well-known figure in Urdu

literature. In order to create awareness about General Knowledge among the Urdu medium school students, Hamid wrote a couple of books on general knowledge for Urdu medium school students. Few years back he founded Quiz Time with some of his friends, prominent among them are Principal of RC Mahim Teachers' Training Institute Akhlaque Khan and Rafeeque Gulab, a BMC School Teacher.

Supported by his wife Zaheda, Hamid travels all across Maharashtra to organise Quiz Competitions for secondary school students.

“You are the future of India. Amongst you students, I can see Pandit Nehru, Maulana Azad, Mrs. Gandhi, Tipu Sultan and Razia Sultan. They all are here hidden in you”, said Shamsuddin Agha, President of Indian Muslim Federation (United Kingdom) amid loud applause. Shamsuddin Agha was delivering the keynote speech after the Prize Distribution ceremony at the Secondary School Quiz Competition organized by National Awakening for Development of Youth (NADY) in Malegaon.

Stating that every country or community, here or anywhere, goes from ups and downs Shamsuddin Agha warned the students from losing the confidence in the constitution of the country.“You are going to take this country further and further. A country that would be secular and free from all kinds of evil and communalism, and you are going to make sure India is one of the best countries in the world", he addressed the students while advising, "Never ever lose your confidence in the constitution of India."

The dynamic head of Indian Muslim Federation (United Kingdom) Shamsuddin Agha, also a renowned dramatist, has helped flourish the Indian culture in United Kingdom. Amongst the early migrants to UK, he has immensely contributed for the betterment of the Asians in UK. He had been invited in Malegaon as one of the Chief Guests for the North Maharashtra Quiz Competition organized by NADY in association with Quiz Time, Mumbai.

Thirty-two students from sixteen Urdu medium schools from Malegaon, Jalgaon and Dhule participated in the interesting yet close contest that ran through more than seven hours. The two-member team comprising girl-students from SWES High School (Malegaon) emerged as the winner and bagged Seth Mohammad Khalil Trophy. The team from Mohammadia Boys School, Mansoora (Malegaon) receiving Dr. Mehmood-ul-Hasan Trophy came second while the third position went to Iqra Public School (Jalgaon). The winner and the runner teams from Malegaon along with the two-member team from JAT Girls’ High School will also contest the State Level Quiz Competition to be held in Mumbai on February 14. The team from Iqra Public School (Jalgaon) has also qualified for the February Mega Event and will represent Jalgaon in the State Level competition.

Earlier while inaugurating the competition, dignitaries and guests from and outside of the town, highlighted the significance of competitions for multi-dimensional growth of the students. “The General Knowledge (GK) competition NADY has organized today is an important step to gear-up the students for bigger challenges in their life”, said Maulana Burhanuddin Qasmi, Editor of the monthly magazine Eastern Crescent (Mumbai). Reciting the couplet that goes as Kampta hai dil tera andesha-e-toofa se kyo, Mauj bhi tu Derya bhi tu sahil bhi tu kashti bhi tu, Dr. Mukhtar-ul-Hasan, son of Dr. Mehmood-ul-Hasan in whose name the runner’s trophy was attributed encouraged the students to get ready for the future challenges. The competition began with the founder of Quiz Time (Mumbai) Hamid Iqbal Siddiquee reciting yet another stimulating couplet Yehan kisi ko koee raasta nahi deta, Mujhe gira ke agar tum nikal sako to chalo.

Sare Jahan Se Accha

Hindustan Hamara

In 1905 more than 100 years from today, when Iqbal was a lecturer at the Government College, Lahore he was invited by his student Lala Hardayal to preside over a function. Instead of making a speech, Iqbal sang Sare Jahan Se Accha Hindustan Hamara in his style. Iqbal compiled this poem in praise of India and the poem preaches the communal harmony that had unfortunately started ceasing in India by that time. Each and every word in this poem depicts an Indian’s respect and love for the motherland and the values the Indian society inherited for long...Read Full
