Mumbai to

Host Career

Festival Beginning Today

Mumbai: Can an Urdu medium school student become a pilot? Can students from Muslim education institutions end up becoming a successful Chartered Accountant? Do the Urdu medium school students really have good career opportunities? These are some of the queries running deep into almost every student’s mind, who completes his or her 10+12 exams from an Urdu Medium schools.

However the two day Career Fest Vision 2015 organised at the plush Saboo Siddique College ground in Mumbai successfully tried in providing practical answers to most of such queries. “I had always wanted to opt for a hotel management course. But I was unable to get the necessary guidance. After attending the Career Fest here in Mumbai today all my queries are now resolved and I am sure the target I had chosen for myself is not difficult to achieve”, says Umar Nizam Shah, a FYBCOM student at Reena Mehta College in Bhayandar.

Interestingly Umar’s earlier career counsels had advised him after HSC to opt for Science stream and go for an engineering profession. But Umar was interested in hotel industry and though many things were not clear in his minds, he chose the Commerce stream. “Since the day I had taken the admission, I was searching for proper guidance to attain my dream career. Today after discussing with the professionals who are actually working in the hotel industry right now I am really satisfied”, a beaming Umar says while speaking with ummid.com.

The Two Day Career Fest Vision 2015 that was inaugurated on Saturday April 11, 2009 in the morning attracted thousands of students from the areas in and around Mumbai. The students from faraway places like Thane, Bhiwandi, Padga, Ratnagiri and Malegaon specially travelled to Mumbai to attend the Career Fest. More than 15,000 students are estimated to have benefited from this unique career guidance festival. “On the first day, we had registered over 4,500 students. But the crowd today is manifold and it is estimated that over ten thousand students would register today”, says Akhlaque Shaikh, one of the program coordinator.

The Career Fest Vision 2015 was jointly organized by Anjuman-e-Islam, Urdu Head Masters’ Association, Association of Muslim Professionals, Students’ Solidarity Forum and Vidharbh Welfare Association. To give the program an interesting yet useful twist to the career guidance program, the organizers had joined hands with top-notch professionals. They had invited these professionals to the venue to answer the queries of the students. There were 51 ‘Career Stalls’, half of them were used by the professionals for direct and first-hand counseling to the students. The remaining stalls were used by the staffs from various colleges and education institutions to guide the students about the admission procedure, course fees and other details.

The students who came for counseling and career guidance were thrilled to meet the renowned architect Munaf Vadkar, the man who has designed the popular lotus shaped Green Tower referred to as Bruj-ul_Arab constructed at Dubai Island, Shazia Ilmi of Star News, Cricketer Waseem Jaffer, Zaheer Abbas–a pilot with a reputed International aviation company, Ashraf Engineer-Associate Editor Hindustan Times and other successful professionals. “It’s new, timely and very practical way for career guidance. This is the thing one needs for planning a career”, says Afshan Shaikh, a SSC student from Anjuman-e-Islam, VT.

The two day Career Fest was supposed to end at 08:00 in the evening on Sunday April 12, 2009. However the crowd was so overwhelming that the organizers were forced to continue it well past the closing time. At 10:00 in the evening at last the wonderful program came to an end but not before the organizers promising to come again at the same venue next year.
