Nashik: Apparently not happy with the media spotlight on sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur, nine of the 11 co-accused in the Malegaon blast case, including Col Srikant Prasad Purohit, on Saturday demanded they be kept separately in the jail, away from controversy.
The nine accused in blast on September 29, 2008, in which six persons were killed, told a local court in Nashik that they be kept separately in the jail, away from prime accused in the case - Thakur and Sameer Kulkarni.
Public prosecutor Ajay Misar told reporters that the accused feel that both Thakur and Sameer create problems by interacting with mediapersons and they do not want to be embroiled in the controversy and would like to be kept away.
All the 11 accused in the case were brought to the court this afternoon where Judge S T Naik extended their judicial custody by 14 days till April 16, Misar said.
Thakur, undergoing treatment in Nashik civil hospital since March 28, was brought to the court on a stretcher as she was feeling weak and could not walk, her counsel Umesh Walzade said.
The court did not give any direction on Thakur's statement recorded by three-member court appointed commission on March 29 alleging ill-treatment meted out to her in jail.
