UP govt may increase seats in varsities, degree colleges

Lucknow: The number of seats in universities and degree colleges in Uttar Pradesh may be increased to accommodate maximum number of students, the state Legislative Council was informed today.
"If required, the government will consider the proposal to increase the number of seats in universities and degree colleges," Education Minister Rangnath Mishra said in reply to an adjournment motion moved by Congress.
Raising the issue during the zero hour through an adjournment motion, Naseeb Pathan (Congress) said a large number of students were facing problems due to shortage of seats in undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
He said, last year 10 to 20 per cent seats were increased, but it was not done in the current academic session.
