New Delhi:
Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) along with the Gandhi Smriti & Darshan Samiti (GSDS) and Unesco would be jointly
organising a three-day international conference on “Conflict
Management, Peace Economics and Peace Science” at the Raj Ghat
beginning Monday.
The conference is being held in
cooperation with US-based Economists for Peace and Security
International, Binghamton University (State University of New York,
US), and International Center for Conflict Prevention and
Management, Sydney.
Eminent scholars from renowned
universities from around the world, including at least four Nobel
laureates, will deliberate on various theories of peace management
and peace science, peace economics with a view to taking progressive
and pro-poor public service policies, and rational approach to
conflict management.
The inaugural address of the conference
will be delivered by former governor of Tamil Nadu Bhishma Narain
Singh.
According to D. Gopal, a professor of
political Science in IGNOU and coordinator of Gandhian Studies
programme, the international conference is likely to offer and
contextualise a global platform to discuss the economic,
environmental and peace issues which dog today’s society.
“It also aims to demystify popular
beliefs in the ruling economic, technological and political
paradigms,” he added.
