Modernising textile technology must: Maran
Saturday, July 03, 2010 10:55:02 PM, ummid.com & Agencies
Doddaballapur (Karnataka): Modernising technology in production processes is necessary for protecting the environment as well as remaining competitive in the globalised textile industry, Union Textiles Minister Dayanidhi Maran said here today.
Inaugurating Karnataka's first Integrated Textile Park here, set up at an investment of Rs 250 crore, he said that the establishment of modern weaving units in the park would provide jobs for about 8,000 people and serve as a "model for powerloom entrepreneurs in Doddaballapur cluster in particular and Karnataka in general".
Textile Industry is regarded as the second largest in India after agriculture. It also generates huge employment opportunities. Yet, the government's focus on the progress of the industry is minimal.
Besides a sizeable area in South India, Malegaon, Bhiwandi, Ichalkiranji and Sholapur in Maharashtra are major textile hubs of the country.
