Curfew clamped in Obaidullaganj in MP

Monday, June 07, 2010 03:49:40 PM, UNI

Raisen (MP): Curfew was clamped today in this district's Obaidullaganj following a dispute at a marriage ceremony in which a youth was killed and three others injured, police said.

The incident occurred during a marriage ceremony of a muslim family. The deceased was identified as Rupesh. Nagar Panchayat Chairman Toofan Singh, who sustained grave injuries and two others were admitted to a private hospital in Bhopal.

''In view of prevailing tension in the Obaidullaganj police station limits after the incidents of torching of some shops and ransacking of police vehicles by the irate mob this morning, police resorted to lathicharge to disperse the crowd", Inspector-General of Police Swarn Singh said.

"The authorities first imposed prohibitory orders under section 144 IPC, but as the situation went beyond control, curfew was clamped and shoot at sight was ordered,'' he added.

Collector Sunita Tripathi and other senior police officers were patrolling the area and keeping a strict vigil over the situation.

Traffic on national highway was also stalled in view of the situation.
