Mumbai: Opposing the Women Reservation Bill in its present form, Movement for Human Welfare (MHW) has called for Dharna at Azad Maidan on 31st March from 2:00 PM.
Hundreds of social activists, mostly women, are expected to lodge protest against the existing women reservation bill.
Dr. Azimuddin, MHW president in a press statement said that the women reservation bill in its existing form is simply unacceptable for the minorities especially Muslims. “We demand a fix quota of at least 15 percent for all minorities, out of which 10 percent for Muslim women alone in the bill,” he said.
"The bill recently passed by the Rajya Sabha is a smart ‘Brahmical’ strategy hatched by political parties like Congress and BJP", he added.
"The women reservation bill in its present form is simply an ‘anti minorities bill’ which will surly reduce the already negligible minority representation to both lower and upper houses of parliament in to merely nil without fixing a quota for minority and Dalit women. MHW terms this bill in its present form a mockery with all minorities, Dalit and against the interest of our country India", he said.
"If religion based reservation is unacceptable for the majority when it comes to political empowerment of minorities then how a gender based casa become rational", asked Maulana Burhanuddin Qasmi, Director of Markazul Ma’arif Education & Research Centre (MMERC), Mumbai and Editor Eastern Crescent.
Movement for Human Welfare (MHW), in its statement said, demands reservation be offered to the weaker sections of the society only to genuinely empower them and Muslims are the weakest community by all arguments and available statistics therefore reservation bill for Muslim empowerment must follow first.
Second, women reservation bill must ensure political representation of women from weaker classes – Muslim, Dalit and other minorities.
“If there is no fixed quota for minorities there should not be any reservation for women at all”, said MHW president.
