SP alleges UP Minority Commission of ignoring Muslims in the state

Thursday, May 20, 2010 10:19:53 AM, TCN News

Ahmed Hasan during the press conference

Lucknow: With an eye on regaining Muslim vote bank the Samajwadi Party (SP) on Tuesday decried the State Minority Commission (SMC) for failing to resolve Muslim issues.

The party also castigated the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) for ignoring the Muslims in the state.

Leader of opposition in Vidhan Parishad Ahmed Hasan termed the SMC as a weak, feeble and inactive body which failed to fulfill the aspirations of the Muslim community.

"It has been weakened from the onset, elsewhere in country the minority commission has a three year tenure but it has been reduced to one year thus leaving little time for the incumbent to realise and act," he said while interacting with newsmen at party headquarters on Tuesday.

Hasan who himself has served as Chairman of the SMC in the past also stated that commission failed to wake up from the slumber during the riots in Agra, Bareilly and Dhannadeeh in Shravasti. It also remained a mute spectator over police atrocities in Sanjarpur at Azamgarh.

"It reflects the anti-Muslim mindset of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP). There is not a single Muslim DM or SP in 70 districts of the state," said Hasan.

The SP leader also underlined that BSP regime has revoked the two hour leave in madarsas and other Muslim organisations to offer Friday prayers. Nearly 5000 Moallim degree holders were greeted with lathis when they demanded jobs.

"Hundreds of Muslims have been framed in SC/ST Act while chief minister is busy in issuing advertisement and dishing out false promises," he added.
