Mumbai/Malegaon:
Nine Muslim youths arrested in connection with the 2006 Malegaon
blasts January 17 moved a special Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA)
court, seeking bail in the wake of Swami Aseemanand's confession
pointing to a right-wing group's involvement in the case.
"From the confession it is clear that those responsible for the
2006 Malegaon blasts are persons far removed from the current
accused," they said in the bail plea.
"Moreover", the accused said, "They have been in jail for past
four years and 'there is no direct evidence of their involvement
in the said offence and was only based on forcibly taken
confession statement'."
Meanwhile, a Nationalist Congress
Party (NCP) delegation led by Maharashtra Minority Commission
Chairman Nasim Siddique is also meeting Union Home Minister P
Chidamabram on the matter.
"The confession by Aseemanand is
sufficient to show that the Muslim youths arrested in the 2006
Malegaon blast are innocent and they should be released
immediately. We are meeting Home Minister to apprise him of the
new development in the case and urge him to intervene in the
matter", Yusuf Haji, President, NCP, Malegaon unit said.
Maharashtra Minority Commission
Chairman Nasim Siddique has already said that after Aseemannad's
confessional statement there is no reason left to keep Muslim
youths behind bar and they should be released immediately.
