New Delhi:
The family of 20-year-old Delhi student Shobhit Modi, stabbed to
death close to his home in south Delhi May 5, Monday moved the
Delhi High Court Monday seeking a Central Bureau of Investigation
(CBI) inquiry in the case.
In its petition, Shobhit's family lashed out at Delhi Police for
what they called inefficient and tardy probe, alleging that they
were shielding the culprits.
Modi, a second year Information Technology student at Manav Rachna
University in Faridabad and an alumnus of Delhi Public School in
R.K. Puram, was stabbed to death near his home in Vasant Kunj's
C-block around 10 p.m. May 5.
He had four stab wounds, one on the chest, one in the abdomen and
two in the back. His father rushed him to a hospital, where
doctors pronounced him dead.
"Every time we contact police, they come up with 10 new theories.
They say it was a robbery case. But when nothing was missing, how
can robbery be the motive? We want the murder case to be
transferred to the CBI," said Suraj Modi, Shobhit's father.
He claimed that he hinted at the role of a friend's father and
went to the extent of calling Shobhit "a victim of honour".
"Police have questioned several people but the probe has been
inconclusive," said the general manager at Minerals and Metals
Trading Corporation of India Ltd. (MMTC).
"The culprits are going scot free and police seem to be protecting
somebody," Shobhit's father told IANS.
Police have so far questioned over 300 people, including Shobhit's
friends, classmates, neighbours, local criminals and autorickshaw
drivers.
Shobhit's father also wrote to the city police commissioner to
expedite the probe.
