Accused in 'secret SIMI meeting case' arrested

Sunday March 20, 2011 07:28:16 PM, PTI

Kochi: An accused in the case relating to a secret meeting of activists of banned Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) near here, was nabbed at Nedumbassery Airport today, airport sources said.

Ibrahim Nizar, (26), on whom a Look Out Circular had been issued by the National Investigating Agency probing the case, was nabbed by Emigration officials on his arrival from Sharjah early today, and later handed over to police, the sources said.

Nizar, who hails from nearby Aluva, is the 17th accused in the case relating to the holding of a secret camp on August 15, 2006 by the banned SIMI at Panayikulam near Aluva.

The NIA had filed the charge sheet in the case on December 30 last year.

Police, which had initially investigated the case, had arrested 17 persons but had later granted them bail.
