Dubai: An Emirati citizen's donation of one million dirhams (over $272,000) during Ramadan is likely to earn a number of prisoners their freedom in Dubai.

The citizen, who doesn't like to be known except by the name of 'a well-wisher', donated to the Dubai prison authorities during the holy month for settling liabilities of a number of prisoners who are serving prion terms in financial cases.

Officials at the directorate hailed the great humanitarian efforts of the Emirati community.
