New Delhi: Delhi Chief
Minister Sheila Dikshit Wednesday announced that her government
would provide food subsidy worth Rs.600 in cash to two lakh poor
households.
The amount will be transferred to the bank account of the
senior-most female member of the household.
The subsidy would be utilized for the purchase of rice, wheat,
sugar and other essential eatables.
"An outlay of Rs.150 crore has been provided for this purpose
during the current financial year to cover two lakh vulnerable
households identified as per approved parameters of Mission
Convergence," Dikshit said.
"There are around 4 lakh households with BPL and Antyodaya ration
cards in Delhi, getting subsidized food-grains under PDS. The city
government was keen to provide relief to those vulnerable families
which were not covered under these categories," Dikshit said here.
