Google Maps shows North Korea for first time

London: Internet giant Google has made available for the first time maps and information
on geographical landmarks of North Korea, a media report said
Wednesday.
Google compiled the data using its Map Maker tool, The Sun
reported.
Before now, Google Maps' information on North Korea was almost
blank.
But thanks to new developments, streets, monuments, and even huge
prison labour camps known as Gulags, these things can be now
located online.
"This effort has been active in Map Maker for a few years and
today the new map of North Korea is ready and available on Google
Maps," said Map Maker senior product manager Jayanth Mysore.
"As a result, the world can access maps of North Korea that offer
much more information and detail than before."
"While many people around the globe are fascinated with North
Korea, these maps are especially important for the citizens of
South Korea who have ancestral connections or still have family
living there," he said.
