Mumbai:
One of the defense lawyers of the Muslim accused arrested in the
2006 Mumbai train blasts and other terror related cases was on
Saturday provided security after he complained to the Mumbai
police that he was under the threat and there was danger to his
life.
The defense lawyer Abdul Wahab Khan
through his sources learnt that he and other lawyers defending the
Muslim accused arrested in various blast cases were under threat
and plans were underway to eliminate them, according to Advocate
Shahid Ansari.
"Consequently, a delegation led by
Jamiatul Ulema Maharashtra President Mustaqeem Ahsan Azmi met
Joint Commissioner of Mumbai police (crime) Himanshu Roy and
apprised him of the threats to the lawyers", he said while talking
to ummid.com.
The Jamiatul Ulema delegation told
the Mumbai police officer that Advocate Shahid Azmi had similarly
received the death threats and was later on given security
support. "However, he was killed few months after his security cover
was removed", he said.
"Following our request, a
security guard has been appointed for the security of Advocate
Wahab Khan", he added.
Advocate Wahab Khan, Advocate Shahid
Ansari and others are part of the Jamiatul Ulema Legal Cell which
is providing free legal aid to the Muslim accused arrested in
various terror cases.
