Left-leaning AISA sweeps JNU student union polls
Sunday September 14, 2014 12:12 PM, IANS

The Left-leaning All India Students' Association (AISA) Sunday swept the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students Union (JNUSU) election for the second consecutive year.

JNU Results

The post of president, vice president, general secretary and joint secretary all went to AISA.

Ashutosh Kumar was elected president, Anant Prakash Narayan the vice president, Chintu Kumari the general secretary and Shafqat Hussain Butt the joint secretary.

Thousands of students had voted on Friday to elect the new student union in the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU).

JNU used ballot papers with the option of None Of The Above (NOTA) for the first time.

There were seven candidates for the post of president, five for vice president, and five each for general secretary and joint secretary.

The JNU campus was abuzz with sloganeering, singing and dancing as each student organisation tried to get the attention of the voters.

The university has been a stronghold of the Left. Last year, the All India Students Association (AISA), affiliated to the Communist Party of India-Marxist Leninist, bagged all four posts.
