New Delhi: Hundreds of people from Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and the neighboring cities and towns on Saturday participated in the funeral of Maulana Abdul Wahab Khilji, noted Islamic Scholar and community leader. Maulana Khliji was laid to rest at Qoum Panjabiyan Qabrustan Shidipura in Delhi.
Maulana Abdul Wahab Khilji (63), originally hailing from Malerkotla Punjab, was ailing since last few months. His condition deteriorated a week before and he died after Friday prayers on April 13, 2018.
A few year back Maulana Abdul Wahab Khilji suffered paralysis then heart stroke after about a year. He was admitted to a Gurgaon hospital after brain hemorrhage.
A post-graduate from Jamia Islamia Madinah University Saudi Arabia, Maulana Abdul Wahab Khiljihad served as Secretary General of Markazi Jamiat Ahle Hadees Hind and was Editor of Jareeda Tarjuman for 18 long years. He was also member of Rabeta Alam-e-Islami, Court Member of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), vice president of All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawerat, one of the key members of All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB), founder member of All India Milli Council and Welfare Party of India.
During his tenure as Secretary General of Markazi Jamiat Ahle Hadees Hind, Maulana Abdul Wahab Khilji always strived for unity among various sects of Indian Muslims. Known for his oratory skills, Maulana Khilji had always been one of the key speakers at All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPMB) national sessions and also at different Indian Muslim forums. He also represented Markazi Jamiat Ahle Hadees Hind at a number of international platforms.
In 1979 Markazi Jamiat Ahle-Hadees was almost defunct – second time in its history of post-independent India. Maulana Wahab Khilji was part of the team which rejuvenated the Markazi Jamiat Ahle Hadees Hind. “After becoming Secretary General, he formed state, district and local units of jamiat and personally visited almost the entire country for this purpose”, Abdul Qayyum Faizee, a former member of Markazi Jamiat Ahle Hadees Executive Body, said while talking to ummid.com.
