New Delhi: Hitting out at Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress Party President Rahul Gandhi on Sunday while invoking Salman Khurshid's recent comments said his party had tolerance for dissent.
“We tolerate differences too. Salman Khurshid had a different opinion a few days ago. I respect that, our party respected that. This is something which Prime Minister Modi and the BJP leadership should learn from the Congress", the Congress chief said while addressing 'Jan Akrosh Rally' in Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan.
Salman Khurshid had recently while replying to a question by an Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) student during an event at the university blamed the Congress for anti-Muslim riots.
“I am a part of Congress. So, let me accept that we have the blood of Muslims on our hands. I am telling you this; we are ready to show the blood on our hands so that you understand that you too must not get blood on your hands,” Salman Khurshid said.
Salman Khurshid had also opposed the Congress' decision to impeach the Chief Justice of India. The impeachment notice though was later rejected by the Rajya Sabha Chairman Naidu.
Referring to these instances, Rahul Gandhi said the Congress had tolerance for dissent. "In BJP, there can be only one ideology and that's Modi and Amit Shah's thought. No one matters there, not even Advani, Joshi and Arun Jaitley", he said.
Gandhi also took a dig at the BJP for sidelining leaders like LK Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi and others. "In our party, whether you are 80 or 18, you will be given a place, respect, love and trust. And if someone deprived you of that, I will personally launch an inquiry into that. There is no dearth of leadership roles in our party," said Gandhi.
Rahul also accused the RSS and BJP of spreading lies and hatred. He also said there was a systematic attempt by the RSS to infiltrate government offices and institutions. "The RSS is slowly taking over our democratic institutions and destroying them from within while PM Modi watches silently", he said.
