New Delhi: A number of leaders from various opposition parties on Friday met President Ram Nath Kovind and demand SIT probe into the death of Justice BH Loya. The Opposition delegation was led by Congress President Rahul Gandhi.
The delegation handed the President a memorendum which the Congress party claimed was signed by 114 MPs from 15 opposition parties.
"A judge died under suspicious circumstances. It will be an ode to him and his family that the investigation takes place properly", Rahul Gandhi said after the opposition delegation met the President at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi.
"114 MPs from 15 parties signed memorandum. His (Judge BH Loya) death is suspicious, there have been 2 other suspicious deaths. President gave positive response: Rahul Gandhi after opposition delegation met President over #JudgeLoya death case", he added.
Justice Loya had mysteriously died in 2014 while a case pertaining to the fake encounter killing of Sohrabuddin Sheikh was pending in the CBI court in which BJP president Amit Shah was an accused.
Caravan magazine in its report had claimed that Justice Loya’s sister and father had said that the Justice was offered a bribe of Rs 100 crore and a flat in Mumbai to pass a favourable judgment in Sohrabuddin encounter killing case. The judge had also confided to his family that he would rather retire or take a transfer than to take the bribe.
Rahul Gandhi, who was surrounded by senior leaders including Kapil Sibal, Ghulam Nabi Azad and D Raja, added that all the opposition leaders want a proper investigation in the case by an independent body.
"We just want to have a proper investigation done by an independent structure that gives us the outcome", Rahul Gandhi said.
"Many MPs from both Lok Sabha & Rajya Sabha felt discomfort over the death of Justice Loya. They feel that the matter should be probed and an SIT should be formed", the Congress president said.
