Mumbai:
We have a very strong case against everyone detained in the 2008
Malegaon blast case and will not let them go unpunished, Anti
Terrorism Squad (ATS) chief
Raghuvanshi assured the delegation of Malegaon that met him at his
Nagpada office in Mumbai today afternoon.
“We have enough evidence to prove the
charges framed against the accused and are fully ready and confident
to defend the Mumbai special court order dismissing the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA)
charges in the High Court”, Advocate Nehal Ansari quoted the ATS
chief as saying. Advocate Nehal Ansari was speaking to ummid.com on
phone on his way back to Malegaon.
In reply to a question why the ATS
failed to defend the charges in the special court, Raghuvanshi
reportedly declined to comment anything stating they have not yet
studied the court order because they still await a copy. He however
tried to allay the apprehensions prevalent generally in the country
and particularly in Malegaon.
“We are concerned about our
credibility more than you and will go to every extent to salvage our
repute”, Raghuvanshi reportedly said to the delegation that
suggested him why the ATS doesn’t show the same firmness in dealing
with the blast accused that was visible when Hemant Karkare was at
the helm of the affairs.
The Malegaon delegation comprising of
Advocate Nehal Ansari, Qaumi Majlis-e-Shoora president Maulana Abdul
Karim Milli, corporator Moin Ashraf and others sought an appointment
from the ATS chief KP Raghuvanshi to discuss the situation that
arises after a local special court dismissed the stringent
Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) charges against
Lt. Col. Prohit, Sadhavi Pragyasingh Thakur and nine other accused
this Friday.
“The court order had shocked the
people in Malegaon and questions were being raised about the
credibility of the ATS and it’s Chief.
Moreover, lots of things were being
reported in the mainstream as well as the local media creating
confusion in the minds of the people. Hence we decided to meet the
ATS Chief”, Maulana Abdul Karim Milli said to ummid.com about
today's meeting with the ATS chief.
About the investigations into the 2006
Malegaon blast case, Raghuvanshi refrained from making any comment
saying, “The investigation of the case is with the CBI and it would
be unfair for him to comment anything on the matter.”
Congress leaders
protest against ATS
The congress party too joined the anti
ATS bandwagon when youth Congress leaders and leaders from Rajive
Gandhi Brigade, Malegaon District Congress Committee and the
Congress Minority cell staged a dharna at Azad Maidan in
Mumbai today morning.
They were led by Shaikh Rasheed,
Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Malegaon and were
demanding the removal of KP Raghuvanshi from the post of the ATS
Chief.
Arif Nasim Khan, Minister of State for
Home who later met them assured of action and defending the case in
the High Court.
