, UNI
New Delhi: The Government today denied that it was considering a proposal to walk out of the Iran-Pakistan-India pipeline project and enter into talks for a deep-sea pipeline route bypassing Pakistan.
Answering questions regarding the signing of pact with Iran on gas supply, Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas Jitin Prasada, however, said in written replies in Rajya Sabha that the Memorandum of Agreement had been signed between Indian and Iranian companies on December 1, 2009 and the two countries had not signed pacts on energy needs.
To a question on transportation of gas from D6 of the Krishna Godavari gas field to the southern states, the Minister said authorisation had been given to lay Kakinada-Nellore-Chennai pipeline passing through East and West Godavari, Krishna, Guntur, Prakasam and Nellore districts of AP and Thiruvalluvar and Vellore districts of Tamil Nadu.
The target of commissioning the pipeline was in the second quarter of 2012.
Further the Chennai-Bangalore-Mangalore pipeline would also be an extension of Kakinada-Chennai line passing through Vellore, Chittor, Kolar, Bangalore Rural, Tumkur, Hassan, Chikmagalur Dakshina Kannada districts of Karnataka.
