New Delhi: The Congress today complained to the Election Commission about the large scale irregularities in the Voters list in Gujarat and demanded an inquiry into the matter pending which all elections in the state be postponed.
A delegation of the Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee alongwith AICC members met Chief Election Commissioner Naveen Chawla and pointed out that the Electoral rolls prepared by the state officials under the direction of BJP ruled government has about 30 lakh bogus voters and demanded that an Election Commission team be sent to the state to investigate the matter and weed out these illegal voters.
The delegation comprising AICC Incharge for Gujarat B K Hariprasad, Gujarat Leader of Opposition Shaktisinh Gohil, AICC Secretary P Sudhakar Reddy, state unit President Siddharth Patel and party spokesman Manish Tewari presented proof of their allegations to the CEC.
''An analysis of the electoral rolls has revealed that as many as 7000 to 15000 bogus voters have been added to each assembly constituency and such large scale irregularities could make a huge difference in deciding victory or defeat of a candidate,'' Tewari told mediapersons.
He said irregularities were of five types like multiple voter I Cards being issued to the same person, in one name and one address many cards being issued.
The addition of 30 lakh bogus voters is a very serious thing especially when the vote difference between the BJP and the Congress during the last assembly and Lok Sabha polls in 2007 and 2009 was just 5,47,039, he said and added that EC must inquire into it as conducting free and fair polls were its responsibility.
He said on combining 13 assembly constituencies of Vadodara has 26,60,000 voters and 4,68,000 were bogus voters as people having same name and address were mentioned in different constituencies.
