Muslims should opt for civil services as mission: Shah Faisal

Srinagar: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Monday said he has expectations that every Kashmiri youth will be as successful as this year's civil services exam topper, a doctor from the valley, who has made everyone among us proud.

"Friends, last month I met Shah Faesal. His father, a teacher, achieved martyrdom in the violence that has gripped the state. Faesal topped the civil services exam and made everyone among us proud", Manmohan Singh said, delivering the fifth convocation address of the Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (SKUAST) here.

Speaking in chaste Urdu to connect well with his audience, the Prime Minister said he had been told that Faesal had all his education from the state's educational institutes only.

His success is a proof that the educational institutes in the state are no less than other institutions in the country. All my good wishes are with Faesal and other candidates of the state (who cleared the civil services exam), the prime minister said.

These youth have a bright future awaiting them. I expect many more such big achievements from every student of the state. I pray for a successful career for all of you, he said.

The prime minister said: I am also concerned that many youth from Jammu and Kashmir and especially from Srinagar feel disillusioned due to the lack of economic opportunities.

"I can imagine the disillusionment. In cooperation with the state government, we will make every possible effort to create adequate employment opportunities in Jammu and Kashmir."
