Chandigarh: Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda today said that 'Gau Ayog' (Cow Commission) would be set up in the state to protect cows.

This was stated by the Chief Minister while addressing a gathering after inaugurating the Lakshya Milk Processing Plant at Kandela village, 10 km away from Jind, at a cost of 35 crore.

Hooda also announced that a new Insurance policy would also be launched for the better upkeep of livestock of the state.

Under the policy, animals would be given protection and on their untimely death the owners would be given compensation.

He said the state had 668 gram per capita milk availability as against the average national milk availability of 252 gram per capita.

"The country occupied the first position in the total production of milk all over the world and Haryana was at second place in the country in milk production", he added.

He urged the farmers to adopt animal husbandry and milk production as a profession along with traditional farming.

It would lead to generate direct and indirect employment opportunities for the farmers in the villages", he said.

In view of the fast industrialisation in today's world, he said, there was a need that Dairy Development be given a status of a full-fledged industry. This could be achieved only with the participation of private sector in Dairy Development.

The private sector should also come forward in this field so that the income of the farmers was raised and their living standard was upgraded, he added.
