Gandhinagar: In a
development in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh staged shootout case, the CBI
court in Ahmedabad has issued notice to the Sabarmati Central Jail
authorities on an application of a suspended accused cop who has
apprehended threat to his life in jail.
Abdul Rehman Sheikh, a suspended police inspector, who is one of the
accused policemen from Rajasthan in the case, claimed that a
suspended police officer who is also a co-accused in the case has
been threatening him inside the Sabarmati jail.
He claimed that the threats started after he filed an application to
shift the trial of the case outside Gujarat.
Expressing concerns over his security, Rehman moved an application
seeking proper security arrangements for him inside the central
jail.
The magisterial court of Additional Chief Magistrate, A.Y. Dave, has
issued notice to the Sabarmati jail authorities and has kept the
matter for further hearing on April 7.
Rehman however did not name any jail official in his application
stating that it would further jeopardize his security inside jail.
He also stated that he has been getting threats ever since he, along
with a few other co-accused, has moved an application to shift the
trial of the case outside Gujarat.
Rehman, who is currently lodged in Sabarmati Jail along with D.G.
Vanjara and other IPS officers accused of engineering the killing of
Sohrabuddin Sheikh in 2005, though refrained from naming anyone in
his complaint, he said that in case he names them, his life will
come under increased risk.
