website wins national award for UP

Lucknow: The Uttar
Pradesh tourism department has received a national award for
innovatively using information technology to showcase the Taj Mahal.
Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar awarded the trophy to Secretary and
Director General of UP tourism Avneesh Awasthi and Regional Director
Abhilash Chandra Sharma at a ceremony held in Delhi yesterday.
Union Minister of Tourism Subodh Kant Sahai gave away the
certificate for the interactive website which has also been
recognised by UNESCO.
The online site makes use of features like a photo gallery,
exclusive video clips, information to visitors about accommodation
facilities, details of certified guides in UP tourist offices and
details on other tourist spots.
The Tourism Ministry presents the National Tourism Awards to various
segments of the travel and tourism industry every year in
recognition of their performances.
