Malegaon:
A local youth in Malegaon is sitting on hunger strike since May 16
against what he called as the police prejudice and seeking justice
for the innocent Muslim youths arrested in the 2006 blast case.
Aftab Alam, 35, is sitting on hunger
strike at Mushawerat Chowk in Malegaon since May 16 demanding
action against Dy Superintendent of Police (DYSP) Avinash Kumar.
"Kumar is biased against the people
who are protesting peacefully at Mushawerat Chowk for release of
the Muslim accused arrested in the 2006 Malegaon blast case and a
ban on Hindutva terrorists", alleged Aftab Alam while speaking to
ummid.com this afternoon.
Mushawerat Chowk is one of the sites
which had witnessed the blast on September 08, 2006.
About his demands, Aftab said,
"Unless written assurance is given that no case will be filed
against peaceful protesters, all previous cases are withdrawn and
Kumar is transferred from Malegaon, my fast unto death will
continue."
According to Mustaqueem Dignity, one
of the leaders of the Nidharmi Sanghatna, three people were
sitting on 24-hour hunger strike on rotation basis since April 25
demanding release of the local youths arrested in the 2006
Malegaon blast and a ban on RSS and other Hindutva organisations
for their alleged role in terrorism.
Nidharmi Sanghatna , a local NGO is
protesting with these demands since about a year. They intensified
their protests after the bail application of the local youths was
rejected by the court.
"Our protest is totally peaceful.
Prior permission has also been taken from the local authorities
and we are paying Rs. 60/- per day to the Municipal Corporation
for the pandal", he said.
"However", he alleged, "After ten
days, DYSP Avinash Kumar started filing cases against the peaceful
protestors under section 102 of Mumbai Act. Shocked, we approached
Dy Collector Ajay More on May 11 and lodged complaint against the
DYSP, and also sought action against him. When we did not get any
reply from the Dy Collector, we left with no option but to start
the hunger strike", he said.
According to him, the police has
filed cases against 30 of the 69 people who have taken part in the
peaceful protest. Tired of what they called as the 'police high
handedness', they started the hunger strike.
Malegaon is soaring at 44 degrees
but Aftab Alam, who is on fast unto death since May 16 and
declines to take any food or water, has lost six kgms of weight.
Meanwhile ummid.com's repeated
attempts to contact Dy Collector Ajay More and DYSP Avinash Kumar
failed.
