Malegaon:
In a glittering function January 07, the film artists associated
with Mollywood were awarded by a local NGO amid loud
applauds and unprecedented cheers.
The function, which was titled as
Salaam Malegaon, was nothing less than the famous 'Filmfare Award
Function' for the 'Local Heroes' and artists, who are associated with
Mollywood - the local film industry named after Malegaon in
line with Hollywood, United States and Mumbai's Bollywood.
"This is the unprecedented moment of
my life. Recently, I had been awarded by various organisations in
Delhi, Goa and other places. But getting award in Malegaon itself
and in such an impressive gathering is incomparable", Nasir Khan,
the local Film Director and Producer said after receiving the
award by Minority Commission Chairman Mohd Nasim Siddiqui.
Nasir Khan has been instrumental in
introducing Mollywood - the local film industry to India and
abroad. His film, Malegaon ka superman had been selected
for International and National film festivals including
Ocian’s Cinefan film festival,
New Delhi and International Film Festival of India (IFFI), Goa.
Mollywood is famous for the Bollywood remakes.
Besides Malegaon Ka Superman, the
popular local films include Malegaon Ka Sholay, Malegaon ka Don,
Malegaon ka Ghazni and Malegaon ki Lagaan. The budget, style,
perfection and innovative techniques used while film making has
surprised the industry and attracted the industry giants to the
town.
"We are nothing in comparison with
Hollywood and Bollywood. However, we are doing things in our own
and innovative way. History will remember our efforts, though
comparatively very small, in giving Malegaon a new identity", Akram
Khan, another artist said amid loud applauds.
"I am short of words to express my
feelings and am proud to be part of such a thrilling gathering",
Siraj Dular, one of the pioneers of Mollywood said after
receiving the award. Siraj Dular has been with the industry ever
since 1972 when the first local film 'Qatil Khazans' was shot.
Among those who received the awards
included Advocate Zaheer Khan, who had played the lead role in the
film Qatil Khazana, Mushtaque Pehlwan, Dr, Ghulam Sabir Siddiqui,
Mohd Husain, Dr Abu Bakar, Haneef Hamdani, Asif Albela, Shakeel
Bharti, Shafeeque Bacchan and Al-Ameen who is playing the lead
role in Malegaon Ka Chintu, the TV serial shown every week
on SAB TV.
Ghulam Mohammad Zaidi, who was the
first local Film Producer and Director was awarded with 'Dada
Saheb Phalke Award' and remembered as Malegaon ka Dada Phlake. Zaidi
has died few year back and was awarded posthumous.
The capacity crowd despite chilling
cold, sat all through the program that ended 11:30 late in the
night, frequently going berserk as Minority Commission
chairman Nasim Siddiqui conferred the awards to the local heroes
one by one.
